Author Glennon Doyle describes a loving relationship as one in which each person can be “both held and free” (Untamed, 2020). Her description resonates deeply for me, and I created the Held and Free series as an expression of the harmony of being simultaneously held/protected/cherished and free/trusted/encouraged. These abstract floral paintings are characterized by a structured grid pattern and contrasting freeform marks, combining for an overall soft and harmonious composition.

“Held and Free” are 8x10 and 8x8 inches, acrylic and paper collage on 140lb cold-press watercolor paper.
