say it like a sermon
Note: This piece was selected for “Art in the Time of Corona, Volume 3,” a juried exhibition hosted by DAB Art Co. on Artsy.com from September 15-December 31, 2022.
I created “Say It Like a Sermon” at a time when I was thinking a lot about my voice, my values, and how they fit into what is happening in the world today. More than ever before in my life, I feel empowered to make decisions based on my internal compass. I follow this “knowing” into big decisions like what is best for my family, and also small ones like I-think-I’ll-try-embroidery-on-this-canvas. This piece is a beautiful exploration of intuition and combines a variety of materials for a highly-textured experience.
30x40” acrylic, collage (fabric and paper), and embroidery on gallery-wrapped canvas, sealed with satin varnish. Sides are painted and hanging hardware is installed on the back.
